How do you think this project will impact Crozet's need for technical support?
It's going to expand exponentially!

The need for technology support will increase, and the support will be essential to the success of the program.

Why do you think you are ready to have a classroom full of computers all day every day?
  • Instruction is a fluid process. In order to respond to student's questions and interests and to design personalized learning plans, teachers need to be able to differentiate curriculum and creative use of computers make individualizing instruction more possible.
  • We use computers everyday and the computer lab is not always available, nor is it alway convenient to go there. With each student having their own laptop, it easier to monitor their history since they can take them with them to work other places than the classroom, i.e. the library.
  • I'm setting up a wikispace for my fifth grade readers where they'll respond to questions I've posted, post their own book review presentations, link to sites that help them communicate the connections they'll make to what they're reading, and write, write, write. If I need to reserve the lab or carts for my class of eighteen kids, then I'm spending a good deal of time setting up and breaking down. If kids had their own laptops this could be a quick transition where kids locate and resume their work with ease.

We already use computers each and every day in the classroom, both with student use and with teacher use as a presentation mean. We are currently held back in doing what we want with it only because there is not enough access. As a teacher, I feel knowledgeable of the tech resources available and know I would use them more fully with more access. Most initiatives I have read about suggest giving teachers computers first, and we are already several years past that step.

What scares you the most about the technology aspect of this project?
That I won't be able to answer the kids questions. I don't want to look like I'm floundering.

There is so much that you can do with technology. I am afraid I will dive into too many projects at one time and not be able to keep up with them. I don't want to overwhelm my students or myself. I will have to make sure I take things one step at a time.

For me, it's an issue of "time." I need a lot of time to learn everything I need to know in order to help my students.
